Resume - Nothing could blemish the otherwise lavish birthday party at the palatial estate of the acclaimed crime/mystery novelist, Harlan Thrombey, except for his strange and unaccountable death. Now, the sharp knife in the silver-haired deceased's hand is a dead giveaway that something, or someone, had been bothering Harlan; nevertheless, the cryptic detective, Benoit Blanc, is not entirely sure. Indeed, there is more than one member of the successful author's clingy family who has been economical with the truth so far--and as Blanc struggles to shed light on a tangled mess of half-baked leads and little white lies--all eyes are on the grand prize: Harlan's magnificent legacy. Can Benoit get to the bottom of this perplexing case before someone else dies, too?

Thought the detective fanboy was the killer the whole time. He was a fan of the books and wanted to create a real murder mystery kind of as a copycat killer. Knives out 2019. Knives out ransom. Writer/director Rian Johnson has taken a classic whodunnit mystery and revamped the genre into a romp full of comedy and charisma, but remains loyal to the puzzle-solving demands of the genre. We can imagine Agatha Christie giving a thumbs up from her grave.
When the patriarch of the Thrombey family, mystery writer Harlan Thrombey, is found dead from apparent suicide, the family comes together in hopes of inheriting the writer's riches, while, at the same time, an investigation into the suicide is being performed.
From the very start we see the brilliance of the film as the camera speeds through different areas of the Thrombey mansion, highlighting Harlan's written works and collected antiques. We get to know the writer with these subtle depictions, and we infer that we are about to meet a snobby family. Although 'snobby' is an underlying subtext, the family we meet is full of eccentricity and quirkiness. Each member of the family provides something new for the palette. It's like sitting at the dinner table and enjoying a twelve course meal. And there's plenty of dessert with Daniel Craig playing the lead private investigator with the flamboyant southern accent, the mismatched pair of detectives, and the home nurse Marta, played by Ana de Armas.
One area where the film detours from conventional storytelling is in showing us how the death happened at an early stage. We are then invited to figure out what is the relevance of everything else happening in the story. What emerges from this is a very satisfying unfolding of events that does not leave us feeling cheated. But beneath everything, we see issues that afflict most families and their particular members. There are the haughty ones that boast in the glory of seemingly raising a family to a higher social status. There are those that remain in a family simply to leech benefits. Then there are those that are not satisfied with what they've been given, and feel they are deserving of more. These issues produce a field of combatants that disrespect the blood that binds them, and the Thrombey family is a clear example of that: when they don't get what they knives come out.
In my opinion this is one of the year's better films with a stellar cast and a solid script. The younger audience will probably be bored (as were the rambunctious teenagers sitting in the same aisle as us) but for us older folks we'll be entertained and probably reminded of certain individuals that make up our family!

This was both fascinating and illuminating regarding the writers process. Thank you! 🙏. I bailed on Cinemasins around a year back. It felt like every video things were just getting meaner and more bitter. That used to be kind of fun, hearing real bile when a movie was genuinely awful or insulting, but it felt like it was becoming a constant, even for movies that were inoffensive or honestly pretty good. Things seem. a lot better now. I won't speculate on anything going on with the creator, but I will say that the recent videos have gone back to being a lot more enjoyable.

As someone who DIDN'T like The Last Jedi I'm honestly and sincerely glad that he had a massive success with Knives Out. No, sarcasm, no last second insult and no stupid Ruin Johnson comment. I'm glad that this film worked out for him and I hope he, and EVERYONE else who worked on the Disney Sequel Trilogy, go on to have great success in the future of whatever they choose to do. Just because I didn't like TDST doesn't mean I have to dislike the cast and crew.

Knives out online bombuj. Rian Johnson is off on Hitchcock's criticism of whodunnits. It wasn't because it was all a big buildup to a surprise at the end. Hitchcock's real criticism, having come out of the silent era, was that whodunnits were innately expository and verbal and more suited for the theatre—antithetical to his idea of pure cinema wherein you can emotionally connect without the need for dialogue. Nonetheless, Rian Johnson is one of the few to make the genre cinematic. Awesome insight.
